 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
i don't think i can hike on weekends anymore until winter. holy hannah, EVERYONE was in NH this Saturday. partly my fault for getting a late start, because the parking lot was full by 8:30am and people were parking along the road. some better than others. I parked in a wider pull-off .25m from trail head. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
this was a long day for me, so my memory is dim about where exactly the issues were. yes, significant shoe sucking early on SR. Please try to use the rocks versus walking around the mud and making the problem worse. One blow down on SR(?) that I bear crawled under and there were at least a half dozen step overs on Carrigain Notch trail. One pecker wrecker about 8" in diameter, that if it was limbed up better would be less of a problem. if i had my saw with me, i would've done it. blazing is nearly non-existent on all trails, which isn't normally a problem, but on CN, with all the leaves falling into the footbed, the trail blends in quite nicely with the surrounding forest. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
i saw a few. these trails are fine for dogs, with the one caveat of step bouldery mess on Desolation. kinda tricky for anyone, but a trail wise dog should have no problem. not a lot of water though. |

even with my late start, once leaving SR, i had the trails all to myself. Didn't cross paths with anyone until my little out and back to Stillwater junction. Carrigain Notch trail is a lovely way to enjoy the woods. Once on Desolation there were a few more folks descending, and I started to think about coming back the same way when a trail runner mentioned the crowds of people on top and on SR, so even though it would make my day longer, I decided to return via my ascent. Yep, the steep bouldery climb on that last mile really slowed me down. Add in some intermittent showers, wet leaves and tree roots, I was moving at a snail's pace. On the way out on CN passed a few folks heading in for overnight. Traffic on the way home was a nightmare. I left Sawyer River Rd at 6pm. North Conway & Conway was clogged. I scooted around, but Rte 16 was a solid line of slow moving traffic all the way to Rochester. took 3 hours to get home when it normally takes 2. |
