Timed the hike perfectly. Avoided the rain. The ledges were a mix of dry and wet surfaces. Take care if the wet surfaces freeze up. No need for traction today. There was only very small patches of ice and snow on the trail. Mostly on the final stretch of trail to the summit. The toilet at the summit is a pit toilet under a wood platform with only two walls for privacy.
Better views than I expected from the tower. Could see the summit of Mt Washington. The view of Carter Notch is striking from this vantage point. Pleasant Mountain Maine protruded up out of the surface clouds. Shingle Pond's water level is low.
I met hikers from MA, RI, and NH today. |
