Another annual FW/FR/GL/OBP in the books. Relatively great trail conditions as rime ice is still not significant and temps, while cold, were not bad (26 at Lafayette summit) Light NW winds made for a very reasonable 18 wind chill. Light snow was coming down most of the day but little or no accumulation until about 1pm.
Falling Waters was wet but a layer of frozen granular above 3,200 actually made it a little grippier than just the wet rock. No need for microspikes. The ridge had a dusting over some frozen granular but no extra traction needed. Lafayette summit to Greenleaf hut required microspikes to be on the safe side but not a lot of rime. Old Bridle was frozen granular but no ice.
Only saw 3 other people. |
