Well we headed off in the cold not too early. We made some good time but did have to add spikes once we were in the switchbacks of the trail as it was an ice luge. There was not much snow but the ice underneath made the footing at times uneasy. Once we made it to the summit we had to hold on in some places with the gusts moving us around. After this we headed on down to where the trail on garfield ridge trial turns into a waterfall. A frozen waterfall to be exact. We were able to make it down in just spikes, I can see this area being terrible when the snow comes in more. I went and grabbed the garfield campsite spur for my redline and then headed back off. I needed to go to west garfield ridge peak so I went off into some thicker woods and then made it finally to the canister. I usually trace my steps with snow but it was a better line for sure heading back down and I came out just a little behind my bag. I met back up with the crew and we headed to the Hut. We went up to the summit got our photos and headed out. We only used headlamps for about 15 minutes at the end. Nice day out with some good peoples! |
