Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only one real crossing on this route, no issues today
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Handful of large blowdowns (chainsaw worthy) on Martha's Mile, looks like that section has had repeated events with multiple large trees down in the past few years - no major issues getting around them today but some will become problematic with a few feet of snow. Thanks to the trail crews for clearing the majority of them - otherwise no major issues, good signage on all trails.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Maddie had a great day, no issues with the scrambles approaching both sides of Owl's Head summit. Saw a few other dogs - if hiking with your dog please be considerate and leash your "friendly" dog when passing others.

Comments
Comments: Good midday stick season hike up Cherry Mountain - typical shoulder season conditions with lots of leaves down which made for tricky footing at times. Much less ice and snow than anticipated, negligible amount up to Owl's Head summit and only a few short stretches of less than an inch of slushy snow on Martha's Mile, had spikes but never even remotely considered using them (but of course they stay in the bag until June). Higher summits clearing never materialized but good views from the southern facing spur at Mt. Martha summit, higher peaks in the Pemi in the clouds but still great views with unusual sky colors and a few sunbeams into the valley. Saw two large groups but otherwise had the trails to ourselves - great day out.
