Comments
Comments: Big loop through the Sandwich range on a cool, crisp day. Road run up Sandwich Notch Road and then to the trail up Smarts Brook. Minimal hikers at mid-morning. Queue to the summit with COVID precautions. Smarts Brook was muddy in places although it was all avoidable and minimal. The top of Algonquin was busy from the trailhead at the base. Good condition, no ice. Gusting winds over the ridgeline. Black Mountain Pond had wet rock and layers of white ice in between the boulders that were somewhat unavoidable. Passable without traction if you take care. Spotty moments of wet, slippery rock all the way to the junction with Guinea Pond. Mead Trail was mostly dry with small segments of mud. Wentworth was covered in slippery leaves although mostly dry. All in all, a full day, the right temperature, good friends, solid mileage.
