Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only one real crossing on this route, no issues today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: What a difference three weeks makes! Three weeks ago there was not ONE single blowdown! Today, a number of blowdowns on the Cherry Mountain Trail...one not far from the start blocking the trail and requiring a chainsaw. On Martha's Mile, there are now a handful of large blowdowns (chainsaw worthy). Looks like this section has had repeated events with multiple large trees down in the past few years - no major issues getting around them today but some will become problematic with a few feet of snow. Thanks to the trail crews for clearing the majority of them - otherwise no major issues, good signage on all trails.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Did not see any dogs today.

Comments
Comments: It was a fantastic 5.4 mile outing to Mt. Martha and Owl’s Head. Drizzle at the trailhead gave way to snow a little higher up.

Beautiful trail. Sticky snow ensured fantastic traction throughout so we did not need MicroSpikes. Watching the winter wonderland unfold throughout the day was as much of a view as anyone could want!

Mt. Martha starts out easy then steep until junction. Last .2 miles to summit easy. Trees well laden with snow. Hardly any wind! Then a quick .8 mile using Martha’s mile to Owl’s Head!

Four-thousand footer type feel to it. Had both peaks to ourselves!

Only saw three people; one heading down from Mt. Martha while the other two were starting off on Martha’s Mile heading to Owl’s head. Highly recommend this hike. A must do hike!
