Waterbars and steps by several different crews since 1986 help hold soil, but trail is still on 1880s alignment and rather eroded. Drains below 1/2-way raked 7/18/2020, when 14' wb installed. |

 | Comments: |
85 people on trail 1140-1540. Many herd paths on thin organic soil esp. in spruce zone. Huge increase in these impacts this year. One such trail had a few blazes on it. Hikers seek easiest walking, and this eroded steep rocky trail never was easy. Like many other popular trails, this one needs many more crew hours building drains and steps. It also needs relocation to switchbacks at easier grade where possible,
We turned back 0.2 mi, before summit, too much black ice on ledges. Below 1/2-way rock it was flowing water. |
