| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking at the parking lot on Carter Mountain Road. I could have drive to the turnoff 1/2 mile up the Class IV road in my Trailblazer, but there has been a lot of rain and I didn't want to make any more of a mesh of the road. Besides, we were out for a hike, not a drive. |

It's hard to call this a bushwhack. It's list on both GAIA and AllTrails as Hersey Mountain Trail. The trail is as well defined as anything in The Whites and once off the logging roads, I don't think you walk more than 200 feet without passing an orange forestry ribbon on a tree. Without any leaves on the trees there were places on the trail you could look in either direction and see 3 - 4 orange ribbons. Looks like most of the ribbons are very recent. A blind man with a one-eyed seeing eye dog could follow the "trail".
Didn't see a single other person. The cabin at the summit is great, thanks to the owner for allowing hikers to use it. Wish the clouds hadn't come in, the view towards the north must be great. |
