Comments
Comments: We crossed unused snomo trail just beyond gate. Noticed that old snomo bridge over Ad Chase Brook is still standing.
Continued on Ad Chase Rd to approx 1500’ where we noticed an old snomo trail leading S to the brook which appeared crossable here. Also noticed a slot in the spruce on the N side of the road where the road ditch was bridged by metal bar grating. We decided to take this slot which lead us to a log yard and a camp. Took a left at the camp which brought us to an old sugar shack. Started uphill through the sugar bush, hitting a woods road at 1800’. Followed woods roads and short bws to the bump SE of the north summit. Then a short bw with ups and downs through thicker conifers to the huge logging road at the summit. Recognized summit is open and obvious. Here we decided not to follow our tracks back. Turned out to be an excellent decision.
From the summit we dropped directly S in wide open hard woods, traveling just W of the N-S cliff band visible on topos. We hit the road at approx 1600’ and easily crossed the brook that had split into two smaller flows at this point. Took a bee line for the south summit. Route took us through wide open hard woods and a pretty bump covered with conifers NE of the peak. Continuing SW we hit unused snomo trail at 1750’. Continued a short while on snomo trail before heading for summit. Mountain top has a ledge backbone that we avoided. Recognized high point is easily found at S end of summit. Returned via unused snomo trail as it swung to the NE to parallel Ad Chase Brook. At 1500’ we crossed to the N side of the brook to meet our tracks up.
Breaking effort - minimal. 2-6” powder
Grades - mostly easy, with a couple of moderate stretches
