This loop couldn't be packed more solid right now. Overall snow depth is thin though, with some rocks, bare ground and wet areas. No real ice to speak of aside from a small bit on lower Mt. Morgan Trail.
I went counter-clockwise this time, and opted for the cave route up to Percival. I can't say that I would recommend this route right now. Ice isn't an issue, but snow was loose and was also hiding some holes, which made the ascent "interesting". The "lemon squeezer" above the cave is very difficult if you are on the larger side or are short. An eroded bypass to the right isn't much easier, being nearly vertical, and the only way up is by pulling on trees, which are eventually going to give way. This is a spot where SLA may want to install a short ladder in the future.
I started early, so I didn't see anyone until I almost got over to Morgan. Stunning views today! |
