| Water Crossing Notes: |
No issues. All of the Falling Waters crossings had ice bridges or were easy to rock hop. On the open crossings, the water level wasn't high |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
I went directly over the top of Little Haystack and missed the intersection for Falling Waters. If you're heading south and looking for Falling Waters, stay right around the summit of Haystack lest you miss the intersection and keep going like I did. |

Went up the Bridle Path and down Falling Waters. The Bridle Path was packed down, had almost no ice, and was in great shape. The winds ascending Lafayette on the Greenleaf Trail above the tree line were brutal in the morning - at least 45mph sustained. Heading south on Franconia Ridge, the winds diminished and it was a fairly calm and clear day, with stronger wind gusts on the summits. The views were excellent. Snowshoes were not needed and at least half the ridge between Lafayette and Little Haystack had enough bare rock that I barebooted it rather than ruin my spikes. Descending Falling Waters there were a few very icy sections, but it was doable with spikes. No issues with water crossings.
Thank you to the woman who took my picture at the top of Lincoln! They came out great. If you're reading this, I was the guy in the orange jacket. |
