One blowdown halfway between Anna and Mack required 20 yard bushwhack to the south. From summit of Major to treeline of BRT was free-for-all of herd paths as cairns are small and not well seen. |

Winter "green" trail up Major - Blue to Anna (BRT) - Red (BRT) to Dave Roberts Quarry Trail - North Straightback Link - Brook Trail - Mt Major Trail (BRT)
Microspikes highly recommended (even Hillsounds aren't too aggressive). The unofficial "winter" trail from the Mt. Major parking lot is blazed green, but so many folks have gone that way, the path is evident (on a map it is a straight line from the lot to just below the summit.) If you wanted to try out snow-shoeing, the Dave Roberts section from Old Clough Road to Reed Road Trail was loose/granular and almost too soft for spikes. The eastern descent from Klem and western ascent up Rand had steep sections with too light snow cover and not enough ice for good traction - go slow. I did NOT investigate ledges side of West Quarry.
Otherwise, entire loop was hard trail pack herd path condition. |
