Trails
Trails: Ravine Lodge Road, Gorge Brook Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Monday, January 11, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at designated, plowed parking area on Ravine (Lodge) Road. Ravine (Lodge) Road was posted "No Parking" at its intersection with NH Route 118; the signs referenced the designated parking area about 1 mile up Ravine (Lodge) Road (actually .7 mile). The Road is plowed to this point, where there is a locked gate, and is also plowed beyond, to the Lodge. There were 2 other cars when I arrived about 7:30 AM, and no other cars when I left about 2:30 PM.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are two bridged crossings on this route. There were no issues with those crossings. There were no issues with awkward drainages.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail seemed well brushed. Signage seemed okay. No blazes (other than a couple of old faded ones) were noticed. One blowdown at about 4150 feet - trimmed, and an easy step over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw no dogs on this trip today
Bugs
Bugs: Hmmm-- maybe some snow fleas on the snow, but I didn't take a close look.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: There was an UnderArmour hat atop the gate.

Comments
Comments: Ravine Lodge Road was in good condition, for driving to the parking area at the gate, and for walking from there to Ravine Lodge and the trailhead. As noted by a recent poster, the Gorge Brook Trail is well packed and in very good shape for microspiking at this time -- that, of course, can change with new snow, drifting, etc. There were only a very few icy spots, none of them lengthy. There were some bony areas lower down, plus the last few hundred yards of the trail were in part blown clear and had many exposed rocks. I opted to microspike from car to car, but barebooting might be possible with care. I saw four other hikers on this route today.
