After the second crossing of the Baker River on the Asquam-Ridge Trail, I made an attempt to find the old Asquamchumauke Trail, as I had hoped to follow it into Jobildunc Ravine; I ended up gaining too much elevation on the ridge and just ended up bushwhacking the entire way in, which was very pleasant since the woods were mostly open. I used snowshoes the entire way as the snow conditions were decent, with about 8-12†on the ground. Once I arrived at the floor of the ravine, I spent about two hours exploring the beaver pond complex and admiring the ice cliffs on the headwall, a truly amazing place. The surrounding summits were mostly socked in, but there was some partial clearing before I left. |
