 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at the gate on Gilman Valley Road. Don't block the gate as the road beyond is actively used by a logging operation. Room for 2 vehicles if careful. Road is plowed but narrow beyond the snomo trail crossing. |

From the parking area I walked up the road about .2 miles and took an old skidder path entering on the right just before the culvert. This connected with Corridor 15 which I followed to the 'double bridge'. I enter the woods here a with a bearing toward the col. This took me to a skidder track going perfectly toward the col. When it ran out I took a bearing for Bald. At the recognized high point (marked with a small cairn) I looked for the jar mentioned in several reports but it was nowhere to be found, I hung a new register (if the old one is buried in the snow the new one can be combined and on jar can be recycled to another peak). From here it was a straight shot to the col and then to Whittier which did have a register. I returned to the col and then whacked back to my incoming track.
Corridor 15 was packed by a snomo machine prior to last weeks snow/rain and made for good walking until leaving the track.
Snow conditions - Breakable Crust with 8-10" granular, not an easy effort because my shoes would catch the crust when they broke through. |
