Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: As Bryan and Zachary did earlier this month, from Rt 3 we drove a widely plowed Indian Stream Rd for 3 miles after which travel is prohibited due to logging. Plenty of parking here since they are no longer hauling from the west side. Not sure if they are hauling from further north on Indian Stream Rd since there was no sign of heavy trucking on the road when we returned from Metallak. Normally Indian Stream Rd is widely plowed for only 1 mile from Rt 3 after which it is plowed for 1 1/2 vehicles.

Comments
Comments: From the vehicle we walked west a very short distance before encountering a groomed snomo trail. The groomed trail crossed the bridge and turned north on West Side Indian Stream Rd. At a Y-jct at 2.2 miles from the vehicle a groomed (corridor 142?) headed west to the Camp Brook/NW Shatney col. We continued north on the groomed snomo trail now called Malvina Loop. At 6 miles from the vehicle we turned west onto the Schoppe Brook logging road. Fortunately for us the road had been traveled by a couple of rogue snomos for 1 mile, up to a Y-jct. We took the left branch of the Y and broke trail for 1 mile to a logging yard situated SE from the summit. From the logging yard we bw directly W to the crest of the ridge approx .5 mile S of the summit. We then bw N to the summit. The route to the summit has many more ups and downs than can be inferred from a topo. The register is located at the N end of a flattish rambling summit. We were lucky to find the bottle since the trees were plastered with snow, and it’s located 6+ feet off the ground. We tied a piece of orange flagging tape to the tree. Returned the same way we came.
Breaking effort - min 12” in light, dry powder on the 1 mile of logging road and on the bw
Grades - all easy, except for a short moderate stretch between the log yard and the ridge crest
Vegetation - wide open hard woods
