 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
From Rt 3, drove 1.6 mile on wide plowed Day Rd to snomo crossing. Only 1 parking spot available at this jct. However there is plenty of room to park on the side of Day Rd. The town of Pittsburg’s website does not mention parking restrictions except for a short piece of Rt 3 in the village. |

From vehicle walked W on groomed snomo trail to Cloutier’s Pit and then to bridge over Perry Stream. Followed corridor 142N, aka Farr Rd, approx 1.25 mi to its jct with Cowen Hill Rd and groomed Willie’s Way. Turned here. Cowen Hill Rd and Willie’s Way soon split. Turned onto Cowen Hill Rd and followed this to a point SW from Cowen Hill N. Started bw N through rather dense spruce and then alders until open hardwoods. Headed uphill to ridge in open woods. Then turned NE to summit. Unfortunately we stubbornly remained on the ridge as the woods became denser. We should have continued further N and dropped off the ridge a bit into open woods rather than follow the top of the ridge. Wandered around the summit looking for the bottle. Initially walked right by it but found it when viewed from another angle. Fortunately bottle is wrapped in orange tape. Followed our tracks back to Cowen Hill Rd.
Bushwhack to Cowen Hill much easier through open young hardwoods. Easily found recognized high point. From here, using preselected waypoints, we bw SE and then S on skidder roads to a major logging road at 2250’ that had been rogue snomoed. Followed this until we hit Willie’s Way. Followed Willie’s Way 1.1 mile SE to its jct with Cowen Hill Rd near corridor 142. Turned S on corridor 142 to vehicle.
Breaking effort - generally at least 12†in powder
Grades - mostly easy, some moderate
Vegetation - varied: wide open hardwoods, open young hardwoods, somewhat dense spruce, alders
