Did a loop starting from the Flume Gorge lot, counter-clockwise. Light traction was fine most of the way up, snowshoes helpful for est. 1/4 mi around the summit. I descended the southern side of the mountain and was the first to break trail since the 8" of snow or so that came in Feb 1-2. I saw one man and his dog barebooting it maybe half, 3/4ths a mile into the trail from the Indian Head lot and he was doing fine, but if you head up to the summit from that direction you'll need snowshoes.
This was my first time snowshoeing and I loved it! |
