Comments
Comments: Walked snow covered FR774 .2 mi to groomed snomo corridor 104. Then continued on groomed FR774 1.5 mi to start of bw (should have started a few tenths sooner for wide open hardwoods). BW through initially open woods then through wide open hardwoods. As we gained altitude we encountered open spruce/fir and stick woods. Around 2100' started hitting a few low dense spruce bands that could have been a challenge in deeper snow. At 2350' we passed next to an observation deck with outstanding views to Lafayette, Garfield etc. Found recognized summit (no bottle) with tree with yellow paint. Continued on to LOJ summit which turned out to be 3' shorter than recognized summit.
On our route we encountered several cliff bands or rocky knobs that we were able to easily navigate around.
Breaking conditions: approx 8" in fluffy snow on a thin base
Grades: predominantly moderate with a few short steep pitches
Vegetation density: wide range, from wide open hardwoods to scratchy spruce/fir to a couple of sprucy areas
