Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We crossed the Camp 9 brook at least twice after getting on Franconia Brook Trail. At the southern crossing (0.7 miles) we had to cross on tenuous ice over about 4-5 inches of water, which broke as one of us was crossing. At the northern crossing (1.0 miles) the ice was sturdy over the brook.

Comments
Comments: We hiked from Lincoln Woods parking lot up the Lincoln Woods Trail and made it 1 mile up Franconia Brook Trail before pitching camp off trail. At one mile into Franconia Brook after the widest brook crossing there are several packed paths that could get confusing. The one off the left leads into a swamp and a view of Owls head and departs from the trail. Shortly after you'll find a path leading up to the right that we made for our campsite. This is also not the trail. Lincoln Woods Trail is extremely packed. Franconia Brook Trail is only moderately packed and requires snowshoes.
