 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The parking lot across from Lennon? road on NH 115 isn't plowed, but there's enough room on the side of the road to easily clear the white line. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Cleared a small blowdown about a half mile up, another small one in the steeps. Cleared a large crawl under at the junction just above the steeps. There is another big leaner in that same area, but it isn't blocking the trail yet or hurting anything. I went a short ways down Martha's Mile and cleared a mid-size blowdown down there. |

A mostly supportive crust, with narrow monorail support underneath. Wore snowshoes throughout, attempting to widen the indentation and bust the crust down on the edges a bit so you could walk without ankles turned inward. The trough is still a little U-shaped, and past the forest boundary, there is a bit of side hilling that will work the uphill ankle some. On the steeps, the crust was an advantage, my short MSR's bit into the crust well. Even going down the steepest parts was like a fly walking down a wall. No telling how long that effect will last. You can certainly spike up, but you'll probably crack some more of the crust, as some barebooters before me did. Although they did help break out the sidehilling, so I can't bitch about them too much.
Watch for snowmobiles on the spur! It's one lane and some of them don't have enough brains to realize there might be another machine coming the other way just around the corner. I had one run me off the trail and while he was seeming to get some delight out of scaring an old man out of his skin, from my vantage point in the snowbank I could see through the trees and I saw another two coming the other way. I enjoyed a moment of Schadenfreude myself as they tried to stop and smacked into each other. Just a moment though; you have to watch that Schadenfreude shit because that's bad kharma and you'll get your own ass if you enjoy it to much!! |
