| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
One other car at arrival at 3:45AM Sunday. Lot was full with one vehicle parked roadside at 9 AM.
Unplowed. 2"-4" of snow on top of blue ice. My RWD with Winter tires car needed help from two kind souls to back out. I may have sabotaged myself by reversing out (without problem) as a test at arrival. This wore away some of the snow, thus exposing the blue ice. |

Sunrise hike up Kearsarge North. Two people were camping in the tower. I didn't go up in order to respect their privacy, but they heard me and invited me up.
There had been about four inches of snow topped off by freezing rain the previous day in North Conway, but early enough that much of it had been packed down by Saturday hikers. Going up, there was initially a weak crust covering a half inch of soft snow on top of a solid base. Surface was choppy due to bootprints, but was easy to smooth out. Higher up, there was a faint monorail, but it and bootprints were mostly obscured by shallow drifts. I used snowshoes round-trip, but the four groups ascending as I went down weren't using them and weren't post-holing (that may have changed for them on the top third of the trail). I still recommend snowshoes since warming temperatures will create soft and wet snow that can ball on the bottom of spikes.
