Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Mead Base Conservation Center. There were 2 other vehicles there at 7:30 am. It was beyond full by mid-morning and some people parked in a way that made it somewhat difficult for other vehicles to get out. That was borderline rude, especially considering that there is another lot about .4 miles down the road which had several spaces available. My advice to early hikers is to back into your spaces, so you don't get pinned in. The lot itself is very rutted - mud season. It was nicely frozen and not an issue at 7:30 am. It was a muddy mess by mid morning.

Comments
Comments: This is a very nice hike with great views from an overlook part way up and several spots near the two summit areas. The best view was from the true summit, with striking views of Sandwich Dome, Tripyramids, Sleepers, Whiteface, Passaconaway, Chocorua and many others. Parts of the trail were very heavily postholed, so careful foot placement is a must. Conditions were hard packed on the ascent, but started to soften up in spots on the descent. Spikes were the best option this morning and our snowshoes went along for the ride. Snowshoes would be essential if it warms up like earlier this week. Trail was pretty popular today.
