Comments
Comments: Hillsound Trail Crampons start to finish, snow shoes went for a ride. I saw a variety of traction options being used today. Saw quite a lot of full crampons, some in snow shoes and some in spikes/trail crampons. I personally would not have used spikes today. Valley Way was very well packed, some frozen post holes, mostly off to the side. There was one solid ice section, but fine with the trail crampons. Very small soft sections closer to the Hut, and around the hut. Solid up to Madison. Small soft section from the hut getting onto the Gulfside. The Gulfside and Airline up to Adams was mostly a hard crust, a few small soft patches, and a few icy sections closer to the summit, trail crampons were fine. On the descent, Valley Way was a little soft in some areas, and a little slushy in some areas, but still solid underneath and the only post holes were the same frozen ones from the start. Beautiful morning in the Presi's, and a lot of friendly folks out enjoying the day!
