Comments: Did a day hike up the Thoreau Falls trail as part as a 3Day/2night backpack (Fri-Sun). Our plan on this day was to day hike up the T.falls trail and back down the Shoal Pond trail in a big loop and back to our base camp in the vicinity of junctions TF trail and wilderness trail. Started out in micro spikes for about 2 miles then switched over to snowshoes when snow started to get warm and started to punch through. Note the Thoreau Falls Bridge has been down for several years. Snow bridges over the eat Semi were strong. It should be noted that someone had snowshoed the trail probably within the week which made following the trail easier though appears he/she turned around the at the Jumping Brook area due to the difficulty locating the trail. Trail started getting iffy in locating around the junction with Jumping brook though located some cut branches locating the trail. Followed a coyote's prints on one particular section which he/she knew the the trail which I find amazing. Finally made it to Thoreau Falls after some more trail locating issues after 3 1/2 hours on the trail. Spent 1/2 hour eating lunch on top of the falls (all covered with snow) in the warm sun. Figuring Shoal pond trail would be in probably worst shape/to find we decided to retrace our tracks back to camp. On a side note, we did not see anyone the 2 1/2 days we were out there other than those close to the Lincoln Woods trailhead on the way out.
