It was a cold day today so the trail was mostly frozen solid, although by the time we came down we did run into some wet and muddy patches. Most of the snow/ice you will encounter is in the lower half of the mountain. That's really the only place where microspikes are needed. It was mostly either a stable monorail or just patches of snow or ice. The winter sidewalk is gone. The upper half of the mountain has more bare rock and dirt than it does snow/ice. The summit area is mostly ledges and there is no snow or ice on the rocks there. You'll want to take your spikes off up there. Coming off the back side of the mountain we did encounter some tricky pitches where the rocks and roots had ice on them so you need to be careful. |
