A most excellent sightseeing tour on the southwest side of Mt. Monadnock, visiting Thoreau's Seat, Emerson's Seat, Wolf's Den, Graphite Mine, Bald Rock, Four Spots, Black Precipice, The Tooth, Monte Rosa, Fairy Spring, Fassett House Site, Halfway House Site, and Hello Rock. About a 5.5 mi. loop, but 5.5 Monadnock miles. ;)
This region of the mountain was dry and bare with very little mud. There were a few small patches of ice around, but all were avoidable. Winds were pretty stiff at times in exposed areas but nothing crazy and temps remained fairly warm. A very quiet day here -- the main parking lot was mostly empty and we saw four people all day. |
