Comments
Comments: Great day for hiking. Bare booted the first 1.5 miles of dry trail with easy water crossings. Some small patches of ice were easily avoided. Put spikes on at approximately 1.5 miles, a small but continuous ice monorail started at this point. Also, quite a bit of water flowing at this point. The monorail grew on ascent to a full snow pack within the next 1/2 mile; still have 2-3ft of pack at higher elevations. Mostly stable underneath, but top snow was loose, mashed potatoes. Lots of postholes on either side of monorail were easily avoided. Snowshoes were along for the ride, but it seemed that they would not have helped due to the unevenness of the trail. Once above treeline, trail was bare and we removed spikes for final ascent to summit. Conditions may change slightly with todays warm weather and continuous melting.

Took the small diversion to the South Peak, Conditions were similar, barebooted to summit despite snow pack, traction was OK. Summit was bare.
