There was only one other group on the trail this day; apparently if you want to avoid the crowds, April is the month to hike. The lower part of the trail is completely clear of ice and snow. About half way up, snow starts to appear on the trail. Easily avoidable for a short distance, then traction becomes necessary. The snow was loose, granular and unstable. Not much of a monorail left, mostly churned up and postholes. We carried snowshoes, but never donned them. Microspikes were sufficient the whole way. I was surprised to see 3 piles of moose poo on the summit! One was older but two were pretty fresh. I would be pretty shocked if I ever arrived on a summit and had to share it with a moose! |
