Trail was dry with threads of monorail beginning at about 3500'. We donned microspikes at 4000' and wore them to the Carriage Road. Carriage road had snow, deep at times, but was stable most of the way to timberline and easily bare-booted. Above timberline were minor mud and patches of new snow.
Wildflowers, including red trillium, painted trillium, Dutchman's-breeches, trout lilies and spring beauty are lovely in the lower hardwoods.
Fun hike with Renee and Chris. We sat on the summit in oblivion in the warm sun as minor squalls sneaked behind us, lightly pelting us during our retreat to the woods. Very dramatic skies. |
