Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None an issue
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Martha’s Mile is in somewhat rough shape. New blowdowns. All but 3 blowdowns can be walked around. All other trails were great.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Would be generally excellent except two spots ascending Owl’s Head on Martha’s Mile. Saw 5 dogs. Friendly dogs are part of hiking’s great momentary distractions from physical exertion.
Bugs
Bugs: Flies swarming below 2000’- did not require a face net, just bug spray around gear/“normal” repellent application. In afternoon heat/wind pickup, all were gone.

Comments
Comments: Great day hike. 1015am departure, 430pm return. 45 min spent with breaks/lunching. Gassed on the way up due to prior day hike. Many people enjoying the hike in a responsible/friendly manner. Some steep portions for a small-looking mountain. I’d recommend parking at Martha/Cherry Mtn Trailheads instead of Owl’s Head.

Two areas of ascent/descent before Owl’s Head are a little slick due to wet rock/slight scrambling. Overall great hike for novice/intermediates.
