Comments
Comments: We wanted a challenge and we got it today. Had no clue what we would find. The best account I found was "Section Hiker's" on his website. All along FR 17A is a faint herd path. Whether this was the original now abandoned trail I have no idea. Eventually we had to pick a point to go 800 ft.steep uphill and we did at an odd shaped medium boulder. It turned out there actually was a moose path which we more or less followed and aimed at the summit on Alltrails. We also had Garmin GPS and I had typed in summit coodinates on it, but I am very rusty with old GPS and I wasn't sure the coordinates were right. We did take waypoints so we would have something to aim at on descent which is more challenging, but we did wind up at our weird boulder and turned left onto FR17A which we followed back to TH. There is occasional evidence of some trail work in the distant past but it is rare. There are no views except the summit view `of Mt. Sable which we did not attempt. Thought there was good views but I was wrong about that. Took us 7 hours RT and there was nobody on thetrail except us. Last climb as recorded in the pad in the summit canister was Nov. 2020. There is nothing rewarding about doing this peak and maybe 20-25 people a year do it. I can see why nobody bothers unless doing NH 200 highest. I don't know what made me want to do it, except it was a big challenge and I learned a lot.
