This started out as a simple hike up to do field work for two short trails, but then one thing led to another and ...
Most of these trails are dry, mainly down lower. There are some areas of mud and water higher up as snow continues to melt. I didn't see too much of the white stuff though -- the most was on shaded areas of Upper Bruin, but nothing that would require traction.
I went as far as just above treeline to get out into the open on Durand Ridge for the views down into King Ravine, which were spectacular. Descending, I cut over to Snyder Brook, essentially following waterfalls all the way down aside from the swing out to Dome Rock. Snyder Brook is flowing healthy and all of the falls are still running strong.
Inlook Trail was a pleasant surprise -- much open ledge walking and great views looking back up the valley toward Mt. Madison. This would be an excellent foliage trail.
A quiet day with only a half dozen people seen and a good reminder of how rugged this area is. Upper Brookside is slow going! |
