Oof, I haven't been in the vicinity of Washington since 2017, about a year before my knee surgery. There are rocks up here. ;)
A spectacular day to be above treeline. Boott Spur Trail is always a quiet alternative route and super scenic as well. Fantastic views all around from the exposed ridge walk to the top. We had originally considered continuing on to the summit of Washington, but opted to drop down into the ravine a bit (Tuckerman Ravine Trail still closed through the ravine due to snow), then quickly cut over to Lion Head Trail. On Lion Head, we met up with Ian D (see his earlier report) and his wife for good company and conversation as we made the steep and rough descent off the ridge. Thank you for the book recommendation!
All in all, a fantastic day in the alpine zone. Skies were a mix of clouds and sun and temps were pleasantly cool with just a light breeze. |
