A FINE day in the forest. We got a later start due to my car being in the shop from yesterdays Tecumseh adventure. We almost whacked right into the Baker just to avoid the crowds... but despite the 3/4 mile of vehicles, the trails did not really reflect it. We went up Gorge Brook to last sure water, and crossed here and poked around for the old Gorge Brook Slide Trail. After doing this twice and missing it, I was sure I had the right drainage - nope. So now by process of elimination, I think I have 4 more drainages to poke around to find the right one. We popped out on the Carriage Road in a water bar, going through jail cell spruce a rabbit wouldnt go through to give a couple quite a fright. It was quite comical. After this the hike was uneventful. We did not have a lot of traffic from here to the summit. The summit was slammed with people. Thru Hikers had more or less taken over the summit and where beyond obnoxious. Loud, smoking pot, swearing, in the immediate vicinity of children, not cool. However the partial undercast? That was pretty cool. On the way down, we felt like a salmon swimming upstream with the amount of people coming up. However, hard to be anything but happy as the majority where families, lots of waist high trampers, lots of teens/tweens. Glad to see so many people out enjoying a fine day. |
