|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Both Trails in great shape - a few spots on Martha's Mile where the ferns are growing in and starting to encroach but trail is still a pleasure - one tree with a blaze (blaze on side coming from Owls head) just below Mt Martha summit on Martha's mile is now leaning over the trail though easy to walk under. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Would be an easy hike for the canines with the exception that smaller dogs might need a boost up the ledges right below Owl's head - a short hike but there is no water except the stream a bit off the trail right near the trailhead so plan ahead. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Small ones out and about - buzzed me but didn't bite - Dozens and dozens of dragonflies at the viewpoint on Mt Martha. |

 | Comments: |
A great little out and back hike with 2 nice viewpoints - view from Mt Martha and Owls head provide great views of the presidentials though view from Owls head is definitely the better of the two - the view fom Owls head is the only place I've been where you get a view of the entire presidential range from north to south plus nice views of Crawford notch.
Clouds on the summits eventually cleared under sunny skies.
Both trails are some of the nicest I've hiked in the whites - easy trail bed with few obstacles most of the way means you can hike almost on cruise control. Mostly gentle grades except for about 1/2 mile of somewhat steep hiking at top up to Mt Martha and then the ledge scrambles right below Owls head summit. |
