Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Israel Brook on Castle and Bumpus Brook on Howker Ridge were easy rock hops on Saturday. With the overnight and daytime rain on Sunday they would be decent wades now.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails in good shape and easy to follow. Some of the trails in the Crescent Range have their usual summer growth encroachment but are totally fine this way. Howker Ridge Trail is in the best shape I have ever seen it, major kudos to the person or people who maintain it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Castle Trail would be difficult above treeline for most dogs, same with the upper section of Howker Ridge. Ice Gulch is a definite no go for the pooches. All other trails are fine for dogs.

Comments
Comments: Good day to do a nice loop in the northern Presi's and Crescent Range. Got lucky with the weather above treeline and beat the rain and had decent views in the early morning. Lots of people between Jefferson and Madison as to be expected, and hardly anyone on any of the other trails, which made for a peaceful and quiet hike.

Sign near the beginning of the Castle Trail warning of increased bear activity and to handle food storage properly if backpacking.
