Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: When crossing East Brook about 3miles in on Shelburn, the trail continues between the forks; it's not that obvious. The crossing of the Wild River is very wide (2 separate crossings really) but rock-hoppable with some planning and wandering up and down the riverbed. Not too deep Friday, but the recent rains probably made this more difficult.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A fair number of blow downs heading up to the summit from Shelburn, but nothing that isn't a step over/duck under. Several areas of major erosion on Kenduskeag, one spot washing out around the ladder. Going down Shelburn, there are a ton of blow downs, but it's wilderness area so not surprised.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None today. Would be good for them, plenty of water.
Bugs
Bugs: Mosquitoes out in force when the sun came out with all the wetness around. Miserable when you stop moving.

Comments
Comments: Redline trip up from Shelbrun N trailhead to Wild River CG. Mud on Kenduskeag is intense. "Post-holed" up to my knee at one point and nearly lost a shoe. Lots of slick rock due to recent rain. Caught in a t-storm on the bald-ish summit too; not fun. Tough to find the trail on the east side of the Wild River coming down Shelburn. Keep heading away from the water and you'll find it, or the road. Stayed the night in the shelter at Wild River CG; it was very dirty inside. Lots of sand/dirt, and droppings. Had to sweep it out before laying anything down.
