There is a well worn unofficial trail that goes to stub hill pond. Before reaching the pond we headed into a ferny path. Once that fizzled out we bushwhacked through fairly open woods to the ridge where we picked up a path that led us straight to the sign for the peak. Below it was a fallen tree which had the canister screwed to a metal handle holding it onto the blowdown. Can’t believe we spotted it! Signed in and headed back the way we came. North stub: we entered an opening in the woods directly opposite the path to the pond. We soon picked up green tags heading in the right direction so we followed them up to a t-junction with a trail. Here we turned left, continuing to follow the tags. We would lose them then see them again pretty much all the way to the summit. We even saw one in the huge blowdown area below the ridge although none lead to the recognized highpoint. Located the canister and headed back on a similar path soon picking up those green tags. This time we kept a closer eye and managed to totally avoid the blowdown area! We were able to follow them all the way down to the car losing and finding them a few more times. Not sure who hung them but they made for a nice trail to the summit. |
