Lollapalooza, seemingly when we returned just after 1pm.
We tailgated for some sustance, packed up, and left. No doubt are absense was noted by a sharp eyed hiking party in need of a spot.
As we left, noticed one pickup truck parked along the road, just outside the Mt Morgan trailhead. His door was already sporting the local pd's love note. Be advised: they do enforce the 'along the road' parking ban. So get there early for your spot on a weekend. |

It was a slightly overcast and chilly (for July) start, as my hiking buddy and I left the Mt Percival trailhead. As the day went on the clouds deck cleared to give way to few high clouds and mostly sunny, blue skies. We enjoyed moderate temperatures, low humidity and a breeze. It was a good day on the mountains for a moderate, very enjoyable hike with great views of Squam Lake and Lake Winnipesaukee and some of the other peaks, including Mt Major, Mt Roberts and even Mt Chocorua.
We met one large group on the way down, as they were heading up, when an 81 year old gentleman from Georgia (but originally from Grafton, NH), also in that group, introduced himself. He had previously run a trail shop, in all places, Florida. He had hiked the 2,100 mile Appalachian Trail (AT) several times, including at age 73. While no longer able to hike the long trails or big mountains, here he was hiking up Mt Percival that day. Wow, good for him!
