Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water Crossings always give me pause, esp when solo. The one on Norway Rapids is rock hop-able, but I'm not physically able to do that currently. I went upstream a bit and found a slower moving spot where I could wade across.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All these trails are in great shape. While the footbed is easily followed, it is a bit narrow in places. Norway Rapids might be the least traveled. Don't know why, I thought it was lovely. Blazing is faint on NR, and there were a few muddy spots. One very scary widow-maker that has been there for a while, that you can walk around or under, depends on your daredevil thrill seeking.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I only encountered people and canines on Livermore, but all these trails would be fine for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: the chills and breeze kept them away.

Comments
Comments: I couldn't pass up extinguishing some rAdlines on this wonderful low-humidity easy breezy day. had the trails all to myself, except Livermore, which in the winter you have to worry about getting nailed by a x-c skier and in summer by a mtn. biker. Big Pines, did have a fair amount of exposed roots and the big trees at the end...meh. I think what IS exceptional about them is that they are super straight all the way up and that they weren't taken out by Irene. Scaur Trail, Kettle's Path, Irene's Path, Old Skidder...great foot bed. blazing is just right. The views from the Scaur are pretty nice, but I think the peek between the trees on KP? was the best one all day. Yep, the Flume was disappointing. It's just an angry jumble of rocks and logs (Thanks Irene). The gem of the day was Norway Rapids. The trail felt enchanted and plenty of places at the rapids to find a spot to sit and soak on a hotter day. My original plan was to continue on over Cascade Path to pick up Greeley Ledge and Elephant rock and then back to Livermore, but I was totaling up the miles and writing checks my body couldn't cash. 10mi RT. Not super speedy or technical and I could walk without pain the next day. Win!
