From our parking spot, we continued through the gate up the driveway, soon passing an old barn, just beyond which is a trail to the right. We continued straight along several open fields until the last one when an obvious ATV trail headed to the right. Almost immediately the trail enters the woods, next to a sign for Blue Mountain. We followed this trail until we were just south of the peak. Here we followed an overgrown skid road until it started to turn away from our goal. At this point, we headed up through nice open woods, moderate to steep at times. At the summit, we came across a ramshackle hunters cabin. We continued past it through thick ferns to a second, smaller hut. We spotted the jar not far from this second structure. On the way down, we followed several skidded roads agreeing that the open woods, while steeper, were a much better choice this time of year! |
