A beautiful day to hike the 🦉. Lots of mud and muck on these trails today, so be aware. As others have noted, Brutus and Owl's Head Path are in a state of decay, E tu Brute. On a truly wet day, one may actually need rock spikes to ascend it, and descent would be even more tricky. I opted to descend OHP today due to Brutus' degradation. OHP was plenty of loose rock, so slow going.
On a side note, I'm not sure if it was just me or not, but I noticed that nearly the whole length of the Black Pond Trail/Bushwhack was thick with muggy, stagnant, air. It was interesting how the air seemed to "sit" there, while the rest of the trails had breezes and lower humidity. Maybe someone smarter than me could explain why? |
