Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Martha, NH
Trails
Trails: Cherry Mountain Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, August 15, 2021
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Room for maybe 5 cars at the trailhead. One when I arrived, three others when I left. Cherry Mountain Road is narrow but in relatively good condition, and shouldn't be an issue for any vehicle. This road is closed in the winter.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None on this route. Many wet spots on the trail have snowmobile bridges.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No blowdowns. A few wet areas - the wettest area is right at the beginning of the trail. The others are not difficult to get through. This section of trail is not blazed, but it follows a snowmobile trail the whole way, so it's very easy to follow.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: They wouldn't have any issues with the section of trail that I used. I do want to say, however, that dog owners need to be aware that not everyone wants to pet or play with their dog. Please do not allow your dog to approach people (especially me) unless they have given affirmative consent to being approached by your dog (which, of course, I will not give). Those of us who are not dog people deserve to have pleasant, peaceful hikes just like anyone else.
Bugs
Bugs: Practically none.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: This was an easy and enjoyable hike. The eastern section of Cherry Mountain Trail follows a snowmobile trail the whole way, and is quite gradual with mostly good footing. This was my first time on Mt. Martha without snow, so it was nice to see the meadow on the summit and to follow the side path to the southwestern viewpoint - the panorama from there stretches from Cannon Mountain to Mt. Webster and includes the Franconias, Twins, Willey Range, and Carrigain. Plus it wasn't so hazy, so the view was better. The view of the Presidentials was also nice except the summits were in the clouds (the clouds seemed to be at around 5,000 feet).

Despite the excellent weather, I saw only 7 other people - three at or near the summit, and a family of four on the upper part of the snowmobile trail section.
