Comments
Comments: The Great Gulf Trail has many stone stairs added in the lower sections. The water crossings in the upper Gulf were easy to cross compared to other seasons when the water levels were higher. The Great Gulf Trail briefly goes up small rocks in a little stream which feeds Spaulding Lake. The lower headwall section of the Great Gulf Trail weaves back and forth around the brook tumbling down the ravine wall. Blazes are somewhat infrequent on the headwall however the markings were sufficient to guide attentive hikers even in the foggy conditions.

After crossing the Raymond Cataract brook (sign) on the Raymond Path one can catch a glimpse of the Raymond Cataract (look uphill at the new bog bridges).

Stopped at Low's Bald Spot where there were ripe wild blueberries to eat.

Saw Blue Heron at the West Branch crossing (suspension bridge). Wildflowers on the headwall included Arnica, Harebell, Goldenrod, and Aster. Nice waterfalls to view alongside the Great Gulf Trail and the Raymond Path.
