Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The area where the path comes out to Thompson Road from the waterfall is forbidden, so you'll have to walk from the official lot or back track the trail. Main parking area has room for several carefully parked vehicles and YOU MAY PARK NO WHERE ELSE!!!!! Or you may be towed. So folks should be both careful and considerate while parking.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: small and easy. The last one is on a small waterfall behind someone's house on the end of Thompson Road. Saw this small spur called Artist's Falls Trail but also considered the end of Peaked Mtn Trail. There is a sturdy branch someone has placed which works well. Thank you!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Informative signs where the trail crosses old paths or junctions. Thanks. There is one area where a relo comes out to meet the trail (last possible junction before the summit). There is not a sign here, so make sure you do not take a left. There is a new blowdown on the flat part of the trail above the last water crossings. Nice work on older ones by The Nature Conservancy. Thank you for your care of Green Hills.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Should be good. Keep in mind some of this borders or may be on private property. Also, this way up Black Cap may be a study in solitude, but NOT the summit. Make sure your dog is good with crowds.
Bugs

Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Hit the mother lode! 1. A yellow plastic tool of some sort (maybe for bikes?) 2. Ladies black visor. 3. Dog leash - looks brand new - Batman themed. They're all at the kiosk.

Comments: Middle Mtn Trail, Black Cap Connector, mystery spur, road walk

So this was our second time in a month to go here. First was to indoctrinate my granddaughters from the easy side (although the 8 year old is a budding cyclist and may be getting up there differently in years to come). This time was a long, beautiful walk for Grammie and Auntie. I would highly recommend this to anyone; it may be 4 times longer, but definitely not difficult. It is a gradual climb, with frequent flat areas. Lower part of the woods looked strange, as there is a lot of leaf damage from invasive moths. So it looks like spring with their size, but the ground says fall. Upper levels did not have as much damage. Fun walks in ledgy areas. Keep in mind cyclists share many of the trails in this system. Flattish ridgewalk before the summit, some mucky areas here. This was like a mini-Washington; not too many people on the way up (the one couple I met were my customers at the post office!), but when you get to the summit the whole world is there. Not complaining, variety is the spice of life! On the way down, we took that trail I've called the mystery spur (either Artist's Falls Trail or Peaked Mtn). Pretty descent through hardwoods and then evergreens. Small waterfall, used the big branch to cross, and then took the road walk (5 minutes or so) back to the parking. Decided to do Pudding Pond next. Report follows
