Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked on the dirt surfaced lot for the Wild River/Basin trails trailhead. This lot is off dirt surfaced Wild River Road in Evans Notch (ME). The road is well maintained and passable by any vehicle. The lot is large and charges a daily fee of $5. I have no idea why this lot is so big. I have yet to meet another person on these trails.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Had to complete multiple shin to knee deep forges on the Wild River Trail. The rain increased water levels submerging “transition” rocks. The current wasn’t impossible, though. The remaining water crossings on other trails were rock hoppable or jumpable.
Trail Maintenance Notes

Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My dog had “happy head” the whole time. Plenty of mud for him to lay in. Many, many flowing water points.
Bugs
Bugs: Heh! Heh! Nope!

Comments
Comments: Route:
Wild River Trail > Eagle Link > Meader Ridge Trail > Basin Rim > Basin trail > end.

Wild River: only blazed in yellow for the first 0.25 miles past the campground. The remainder is in the wilderness and is not blazed. Footbed simple to follow, though encroaching vegetation worsens the further one travels on the trail. See water notes above. Explored Spruce Brook campsite. Noted two nice tent pads. Couldn’t find a privy. Kinda needed that… had to dig the fastest cat hole of my life.

Eagle Link: lightly used trail. Some yellow blazing but these are extremely faded and not consistent. Muddy. Disintegrated bog bridges where some are still showing. Footbed takes some attention to follow. This is mostly because of the leaf litter. Encroaching vegetation soaked the dog and I completely. This is a nice, quiet trail. Some ledges that may afford views on clear days. Today these were super slick and hard to negotiate on just two feet. The dog had a four foot advantage…

Meader Ridge: nicely blazed in yellow with supplemental carins in the alpine area. Socked in summit of Eagle Crag. Apparently the clouds will not be outdone this year by vibrant fall foliage colors. Looked very Halloweenish with the mist and moss.

Basin Rim: very well blazed in fresh yellow blazing. Lovely trail. Some views emerging below the clouds.

Basin trail: not blazed until yellow blazes start 0.25 miles from the campground. Wet and muddy for most of the upper section.

No other humans encountered today. Thankfully no moose or bears either. The dog and I wore our blaze orange, this was a good call as we passed two trucks with hunting dog kennels in the back.
