Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Easy rock hops
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails were in great shape. Nelson Crag could use brushing in a few spots
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Too much steep and rocky, along with tons of sharp mica rocks, for me to take Fin on this hike. Nelson Crag has a lot of scrambly sections as well. Some dogs could do these trails but I wouldn’t recommend them for most.

Comments
Comments: What a morning on the rock pile. Climbing Lion Head in the dark was exciting, and I enjoyed a magnificent sunrise on the Alpine Garden. Did a little redline loop on the lawn before descending the head wall, which was wet but never sketchy. The climb up Boot Spur Link was steep and fun, as was the Boot Spur proper. Summit wasn’t too busy but I stuck with my Washington protocol which is to avoid direct eye contact with people and run off the summit as fast as humanly possible. The upper half of Nelson Crag should be renamed the Auto Road Trail. The views are great but having the road right beside you for much of the descent is annoying. The bottom half below tree line is steep AF, and was super slick with water and leaves. I was cursing this section as it seemed to never end and had me on my ass more than once. Low’s Bald spot is a nice little view, but somewhat lackluster compared to everything before it. foliage seemed very near peak and I saw only 7 hikers all morning. Winds at sunrise were completely calm and shorts/tshirt was ideal the entire hike. took the Kanc home and boy the leaf peepers are out in force! This weekend is gonna be nutso. Live Free and redline or Die!
