Comments
Comments: From the gate on Gilman Valley Road, I bushwhacked up the eastern ridge of Mt. Whittier through mostly open woods, stopping at 1530ft to check out some southern-facing ledges; the views were mostly blocked by deciduous trees so I continued on to the summit, from which point I headed over to some talus slopes on the N flank of Bald Mountain. At the talus there was a really nice vista towards the Sandwich Range, however the best views were from the southern-facing slab on the other side of the mountain, overlooking a small bog between Bayle and Bald Mtns. Foliage was just past peak but there was still some decent color. I descended via logging roads off Bald’s eastern ridge and followed Gilman Valley Road back to my car.
